Just last week I was commenting on how the Padres had been fairly luck thus far with few injuries at all, and no major ones thus far in spring…that’s changed.
- Carlos Quentin: It was announced that Carlos will have arthroscopic knee surgery on his right knee to remove debris from a meniscus tear. The Padres are hoping that he can be ready to resume play in 4-6 weeks. Apparently he came to camp feeling fine, but about a week in started feeling some discomfort. He was given days off to try to calm the knee down, but it was not responding and further tests revealed the tear and debris. The good news is he will have 2 of those weeks covered by spring training, and the expectation is that after the surgery he will be able to resume at full strength.
- Nick Hundley: Sore right side is feeling better and he is expected to be back in games by Tuesday.
- Chris Denorfia: Sore back is doing better and he was able to play in two minor league games. He is available for action today, and needs to start getting some at bats to be ready for opening day.
- Orlando Hudson: Right groin strain is feeling better and should resume game action any day.
- Orlando Cabrera: Shoulder is still stiff and will be on a day to day basis.
- Chase Headley : Lower back apparently feeling good, and no negative response from recent game action.
- Jason Bartlett: Right knee is feeling better and no negative response to recent game activity.
- Matt Palmer: Tight hamsting; scheduled to throw a bullpen possibly tomorrow.
