Padres Game Recap – Apr. 25, 2015

sd logoNot the return to the mound that Ian Kennedy was hoping for tonight as he allowed 8 runs and 3 HR’s as the pads lost to the Dodgers 11-8, thus losing the series.

Kennedy was not sharp from the get go, missing up and out over early and being touched for 3 runs on 5 hits including a home run and two doubles in the first.  The struggles continued in the second this time with a 3-run HR which sealed Ian’s fate for a shorter night on the mound than he and the Padres were hoping for.  He ended up pitching into the fifth, with his third HR of the night allowed being the final wound that chased him trailing 7-3.

Yes, the Padres did score 3 runs in the bottom of the first to tie it thanks to HR’s by Myers and Upton, and for a brief moment made it look as though the game was going to be a contest, but with Kennedy struggling with mistakes in the zone it was an uphill battle tonight that was not going to be won.  The Friars, though, have shown that they will not quit, and fought back in the 6th scoring four with the help of another Upton HR to and four other Pads hits to make it 10-7.  That was as close as they would get as the Dodgers scored another in the 8th, as did the Pads in the 9th.

Upton was the Padres hero of the night with is 2 HR’s and 5 RBIs. It was an unusual night with 7 HR’s being hit between the two clubs, one shy of the record 8 done three times since Petco opened.  Just strange to see the ball carrying so well during a stormy night game at Petco.

Tough night for the fellas that they will need to shake off quickly to take the final game tomorrow and avoid the sweep.  It will be up to Morrow to break the Friars 4 game skid.  First pitch is at 1:10 and look forward to you joining Uncle Teddy and myself for the action on the Mighty 1090.

Disappointing. We know AJ won’t hesitate to make moves. Sense of urgency to win is paramount.

So let me get this straight, not only does bud black sit the hottest pitcher of the rotation (Despagne), but he chooses to leave Kennedy in until he gets rocked for 8 runs( no offense to ian) , and the fact that he still doesnt learn that he should play a smart game and walk Gonzalez when he has tagged you for 6 hrs all season. And single handly beats you. Where is Bochy or someone more smarter than Bud black to work with a talented team. Not to mention you continue to reward Gyrko with at bats! When you have a medica who is down in Triple A capable of performing way better. And you can leave Solarte at 2b. The padres have the skills and team to win the World Series but Bud Black doesnt Convince me and never will! #firebudblack campaign has been going on since he couldnt manage to snap a 10 game losing streak back in 2010!! Not one to say stuff like this but Bud Black makes too much money to be horrible at what he does. Just a vent and how i feel and im sure others feel the way i do. We need an experience coach who can mange and make great decision overall!
