Rumors are surfacing that the Padres are in discussions with former Rockie OF Brad Hawpe.
SI’s Jon Heyman reported that Hawpe and fellow free agent Russell Branyan may be viable options to fill the first base hole left by the departure of Adrian Gonzalez. Hawpe, 31, batted just .245 with nine homers, 44 RBI and a 758 OPS in 298 at-bats between the Rockies and Rays this past season. His best year was with COL in 2007, when he hit .291 with 29 HR’s and 116 RBI.
