Padres Game Recap – May 15, 2015

sd-logoAlmost every night if you ask any team’s manager who the most important player on his team is that night he will tell you that it’s his starting pitcher for that evening.  Such was the case of both Buddy Black and Matt Williams, and indeed it was the starting pitching that determined the outcome of this ball game.  Unfortunately for the Friars the outcome was not a good one as they were downed by the Nats 1o-0.

Despaigne was simply not sharp tonight and was tagged for four runs in the 1st.  That’s a challenging hole to dig out of under any circumstances but especially against a starting pitcher like Zimmerman who A.) has great stuff, and B.) doesn’t beat himself with walks.

At that point Buddy had little choice but to hope OD could figure it out to save the bullpen, but by the third after it was 7-0 it was all over but the fat lady singing, and Buddy’s primary goal became bullpen salvation to be able to fight another day.  Zimmerman shut the Pads offense down, and this one was over almost before it even got started.  Sucks when that happens but it does.

You get your butt handed to you tonight, all you can do is come out and expect to do it back to them tomorrow.  Not much more to say tonight.

Cashner and Scherzer going head to head tomorrow in a classic power arm match up. First pitch is at 5:40, and hope you’ll be with Uncle Teddy and me tomorrow either at the ballpark or listening to all the action on the Mighty 1090.

Bob I don’t know any other way to contact you. We are upstairs in the Hall.

I think it is a good thing that expectations are high for this Padre team, and they should be. At this point last year most people did not give a rip about the Padres. I am not going to jump on this Ownership or Management Group, as they made lemonade out of lemons last Winter. Having said that, it is time to tweak this roster a bit. First order of business is to release Kelley [AJ’s worst trade by far last Winter] and bring up Campos or Vincent. Next, I would try Robbie Erlin as my lefty out of the pen and give Colin Rea a shot at 5th starter until Morrow comes back. I have seen in a few rumor mills about AJ going after Tulowitski from Colorado, but I don’t see how they can fit his salary in long term [its not my money, so go for it!] I about choke every time I hear Lietner call Amarista the Ninja, the guy does not belong on a playoff contending roster, let alone as a starter.

What do you think is going on with OD? Think they might consider sending him to AAA to get him straightened out? Does he have options?

Tough night. And the fans at the ballpark didn’t help the mood …. Friday night is more about food and drink than baseball … but last night – who could blame them?

For the “same lineup” crowd, does anyone have any proof that using the same lineup over and over work yield better results? There’s like zero depth on the farm after all the offseason moves. This is pretty much the team that the Padres will have to run with.

Kelly & Garces need to be released or sent down by Monday! They suck!

Well I hope they figure it out and hand it back to them because I’ll be at Saturday’s game and what’s worst than watching a game like that on TV? Paying to watch it at Petco.

Roberts interim mgr, until Preller can find someone who will have the same lineup on the field more than 2 days at a time….
How do you expect the team to gel, when its a different product almost every other day…?

This team gets blown out a lot, pretty disappointed so far.

Ugg… At least when my Little League team gets behind like this I can make a kid’s year by putting him on the hill… I can’t imagine wanting to be on that mound tonight unless… well.. I’d never been on it… say… I would have loved to been on the hill for Buddy!

Time to shake things up at petco. Sorry Bud, but your time has come to ride off into the sunset.

If the Padres follow the pattern, they will win 14-2 tomorrow and lose 13-0 on Sunday.
